Sr. Suzanne joined the faculty of St. Mary School in 1994 as Librarian and Spanish teacher. She retired in 2016 after faithfully serving the students of St. Mary's for 22 years. Sr. Suzanne was a special person in hundreds of children's lives. She accepted each child as an individual gift from God, motivated all to do their best, provided respite when needed, inspired a love of reading, and encouraged a relationship with Jesus through prayer.
As director of the RCIA program at St. Mary's, Sr. Suzanne was responsible for bringing many adults and families to the Catholic faith. She also shared her deep spirituality through her mentorship in the Christ Renews His Parish program.
Sr. Suzanne embodied the spirit of a joyful servant and lover of Creation, evangelizing by example. Her gardening skills (and ability to find volunteers) made St. Mary's campus beautiful. She was present at most parish and school functions, sharing her love of community and God. Sr. Suzanne Hitzges' smile, laugh, work ethic, ability to chat, and selfless manner will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
