Join me in welcoming Fr. Peter Bassey to the ACRCC Family 15, Family of Parishes
Fr. Peter was born and raised in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria in a large family where he is one of the younger siblings. He began to discern his call to the priesthood in high school. During a time of discernment, he immigrated to the United States, where he continued his studies. He is quite learned, holding a Bachelor's in philosophy, a Master’s in Divinity, and another in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
The priesthood has been his life’s work. “I was mainly influenced by a few priests whose kindness and dedication to their calling deeply moved me. Their ability to guide others, serve selflessly, and share God's love made a lasting impact. Over time, I felt God calling me to follow a similar path, and with the support of my loved ones and pastor, I found the courage to answer that call.” He was ordained on June 2, 2018, and has since served in a variety of roles throughout the diocese.
He values the simple things in life like good food, and good company, “I've always enjoyed dishes that are simple yet rich in flavor, like homemade rice, roast chicken, or a good stew. There's something special about sharing a meal that's been prepared with love—it nourishes both the body and the spirit.” He also values good music, “my favorite secular songs would have to speak to the beauty of life and human connection. Music has a way of uplifting the soul, even outside of a religious context.” And a good book, preferring science fiction/fantasy or philosophy/existential fiction. “I love the imaginative possibilities and exploration of the unknown. … I'm drawn to stories that make you pause and reflect on meaning and purpose.”
